Sammy Goes to UWB is a pair of games, the first on PC and the second on a Zune device, that act as a supplement to the UWB (University of Washington, Bothell) campus tour guide. It was created by a team of 5 as a faculty research project, working with the UWB Administration and the ASUWB (Associated Students of the University of Washington, Bothell).
The PC game was built in Flash, and tells the story of Sammy the Salamander as he makes his way from the wetlands behind the campus to the front desk in the attempt to become a UWB student (his life-long dream, of course); it is designed to introduce the player to several aspects of student life and to the campus itself, showing information on clubs and events and properties on the campus, such as the wetlands and the Sammamish Trail. The Zune mobile game follows Sammy as he makes his way across campus solving a mystery, allowing student to familiarize themselves with the campus by visiting locations directly.
I did not participate in the project as a programmer; instead, I contributed as the team's primary artist. Participating in the project was invaluable for understanding how to work with a client to produce a project, how to produce assets and content on a time and resource budget, and deciding on and working within an agile development cycle (scrum).
